How to acquire a TCCD owned Hotspot for use off campus

Instructions, Steps, or Information

The agreement with Verizon to obtain Hotspots (often called MiFis) for off campus use has expired.   This only affects new requests for TCCD Hotspots for TCCD employees. TCCD employees that already have a Verizon Hotspot can continue to use the Hotspots they have.

TCCD employees that need a Hotspot to do TCCD work off campus can go to a campus library and request the use of a Tablet with a SIM card in it. TCCD employees can only use the Library Tablets for a limited amount of time consistent with the library’s lending policy.

TCCD employees that have a justified need for a TCCD owned hotspot for an extended amount of time, must submit a TDX Hotspot Service Request  Digital Needs in TDX.  The request must explain what type of work the employee is doing off campus and why no other access to the internet is available.    Digital Needs will develop a solution based on the TCCD Employee’s justifications and need.

To submit the TDX request go to https://service.tccd.eduand and click on Sign In.  Then click on The Services tab and under Popular Services click on Request a New Device or Accessory.    On the next screen click on  -> Submit a Ticket.   The Requester field will self fill with your name and the Acct/Dept Field will self fill with your department.   In the Short Description field, enter  “I need a Hotspot (Tablet with a SIM card) to complete my TCCD Job requirements.  Enter your campus in the Delivery Location field.    Enter your campus in the Campus field.  Enter your office building and room number in the Building and Room field.  Click the box next to Other and then enter “Hotspot for use off campus” in the Additional Notes field.

In the Reason for this request field, provide a detailed explanation of why you need the Hotspot.  You must explain where you will be using it, and why there is no other access to the internet.   You can then click on the Request button at the bottom of the page.

Someone working in Digital Needs will contact you about your request.
