Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application or an online account.

Short Message Service (SMS) is a protocol cellular phones use to send and receive text messages.

Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) refers to the process of running a user desktop inside a virtual machine that lives on a server in the datacenter

As of October 2023, all TCC students will begin using MFA to access Office365 applications and other TCC sponsored applications. You will need to configure your Mobile device to use SMS for MFA. Take initiative and configure your mobile device for MFA before October 2023.

Students will also use MFA when logging into a VDI machine or online VDI at http://cloud.tccd.edu to access their VDI workspace.

Getting Started

Follow the steps in this document to configure your mobile device to use SMS for Multi-factor Authentication (MFA).

NOTE: The screen prompts are the same when using VDI or Microsoft Office to configure you mobile device.

  1. Have your Mobile device powered on and available.
    1.  You can log onto a VDI device or use VDI online http://cloud.tccd.edu to configure your mobile device. 
      1. Enter your @my.tccd.edu email address, click Next then enter network password,click Sign in.
      2. ​​​Once logged on the prompts to start configuing your mobile device to use SMS will begin.
    2. Paste the following URL www.office.com into your browser 
      • Do not use Internet Explorer
      • ​​​​Firefox (New Private Window)
      • Edge (New InPrivate Window)
      • Chrome (Incognito Window)
      1. Paste the following URL www.office.com into the browser.
      2. Sign in using your @my.tccd.edu email address, click  Next.
      3. Enter your TCCD password, click Sign in

  1. On the next screen review and Accept the Tarrant County College District Terms of Use.
    • Note: If you have previously logged onto the TCC network you will not be prompted to accept the Terms again.
    • Note: To review the Terms, you may need to scroll the window bar to the right.

Setting up SSPR (Self-Service Password Reset)

  1. You will be prompted “More Information Required”, click Next.
    • If you have previously set up SSPR for MFA, you will instead be prompted to Stay Signed In. 

  1. On the “Keep your account secure” page, this is the SSPR set up,
    • select United States (+1) from the drop-down arrow
    • enter your cell phone number
    • choose how to verify your cell number, Text me a code or Call me – for these instructions we selected Text me a code
    • Click Next

  1. Enter the code that was received on your phone, click Next.

  1. You will receive a confirmation message “SMS Verified. Your phone was registered successfully." Click Next.

7. Select Yes or No if you would like to "Stay signed in."

  • Select No if you are using a shared computer.

Note: If you configured your device by accessing www.office.com the screen below will appear.  
Click the arrow to the right of the picture until it closes.

The Welcome to Microsoft 365 screen will then appear.

8. Click the round icon found in the upper right corner of your window that holds your initials or picutre and Click "Sign Out."



Note: if you configured your mobile phone using a VDI device or VDI online at http:\\cloud.tccd.edu the following screens will appear.

Click on Apps the window to the right containing your Student Workspace along with other often used applications will open.
          

Now that your mobile device is configured to use SMS ...

From now on you will provide Multifactor Authentication for the following. 

  • Logging into a VDI device.
  • Logging into VDI online http:\\cloud.tccd.edu.
  • Logging into Microsoft Office www.office.com or other Microsoft applications.
  • Logging into other TCC applications that needs Multifactor Authentication.
  • The screens below will appear each time you access those listed above.

 

                 

 

 

           

​​​​​​​Evaluate your MFA Configuration

  1. Visit the My Security Info page
  2. Confirm  the options you set up, test options are working correctly by selecting them.
  3. You have completed configuring and evaluating your MFA configuration.
