How to bring a switch in SDA with LAN Automation

Instructions, Steps, or Information

To begin adding a switch to the SDA fabric you will need to do a couple of steps.

1) create csv file if you want to have SDA label your switches. You can always do it manually later. A csv file is a text file with the name of the switch you want to use, a comma,and the serial number of the switch.

2) verify OS version of switch. This is important because if you do not verify the OS version, it can greatly impact the time it takes to run LAN Automation. If LAN Automation has to upgrade the switch to the golden image, it will add about an hour to the process. Unfortunately the process does not tell you it needs to upgrade the switch.

3) If the switch was previously in DNAC, you will need to delete switches from DNAC

4) If the switch was previously in DNAC, and after you have disconnected it from the network, you need to clear the switch with the wiping script and reload. An alternate method of wiping the switch is with the pnpa service reset command.

5) once they have booted up in wizard mode, remote into the 9500 switch. Run the cdp neighbor command and look for "switch" as one of the neighbors. Document what interfaces are used on the 9500, you will need them later.

Now we are ready to actually use LAN Automation

1) log into DNAC

2) actions --> provision --> lan automation

     select your primary site and peer site. this is location of the 9500

     select interfaces you wrote down in step 5 above.

     set site for the new switch. building and floor.

     select the ip address pool

     put in isis password

     check multicast

     upload created csv file if you are using this method.

     click start

It can take between 15 to 60 minutes to bring the switch into SDA. If LAN Automation has to upgrade the switch to the golden image, that will add about an hour to the process.

At this point LAN Automation is bringing the switch into SDA. You need to check the status as it works or you wont know when it is done and how to stop LAN Automation. It will continue to look for switches if you do not stop it.

1) actions-->lan automation status

     select log and watch for completion

     select devices tab

You will see the devices added. This is an example.
