No Boot Device Error on an Optiplex 7040
Instructions, Steps, or Information
IMPORTANT
: After executing the following steps, we recommend reimaging the machine with an updated MDT stick that will format the hard drive GPT. This firmware updates needs to boot UEFI on a hard drive formatted GPT. You shouldn’t be using legacy unless it’s an old machine.
Ensure your 7040 has the latest BIOS version
Google “Dell Support 7040”
Download the update for your BIOS if necessary
Next, under category, select Serial ATA
Download the Intel Pro 2500 Series Solid State update
Open the file and hit continue
Click okay and allow the driver to create a folder.
When the driver is fully extracted two windows will appear. You can leave these open.
Open an elevated command prompt (commands must be executed under command prompt admin)
When the command prompt opens copy and paste this command --
cd C:\Dell\Drivers\WYF9R
Verify you have changed directories
Copy and paste this into the command line and hit enter:
irmfuu_7.0.9_win64.exe
(you are running the .exe file within the \WYF9R folder that was created earlier)
After the update has been executed it should return a successful confirmation. Reboot the machine. Make sure the BIOS is set to boot UEFI. Email anthony.ochoco@tccd.edu
