What is the difference between the client and the web browser?

  1. The client has software installed on a computer. The client provides better user experience. The client runs the virtual desktop as an application on the computer.
  2. The browser version runs in a web browser. The browser version can be less smooth and more difficult to manage for some users. Users often confuse the start menu and other duplicated features.
  3. Users may choose between the client and the browser when getting access to a Virtual Desktop.  We always recommend the client, and we request High schools deploy the Omnissa app to devices that support it (apple os and Windows os).
  4. Chrome book users may download the client from the app store or use the browser version.
  5. Ipad users are required to download the client from the app store. Respondus will not work without the client installed on an IPAD.
  6. If you are installing the client on a TCCD device, please use the company portal and follow the instructions at Install Omnissa Client This also include instructions on how to use the client.
  7. You may download the client for personal devices at Client Download.
  8. Using the Browser is simple. Click the three dots and click launch from browser on Student desktop.
    1. Open a web browser (ex. Chrome, Firefox, Edge). Navigate to http://cloud.tccd.edu , hit enter to access the VDI environment.
    2. If you are not signed up automatically, enter your TCC email, click Next. Enter your TCC password, click Sign In. You will be prompted for Multi-Factor Authentication.

Using the Respondus Lockdown Browser software in VDI.

  1. Student, information technology, and graphics pools have Respondus Lockdown Browser installed.
  2. Using Respondus Lockdown Browser depends upon what version of Respondus Lockdown Browser a person may need. For example, Lab 2 Respondus Lockdown Browser supports most exams on canvas however, there is a version exclusive to Pearson test. Knowing what version to use depends on the course. Version information should be communicated by your instructor, however if you must launch from the Pearson website, you are using the Pearson version.
  3. If you need to use the non-Pearson Respondus Lockdown Browser  please follow the guide at Using Respondus lockdown browser.
  4. Here is a video that covers in-depth information at Video.
