How to Search for Past Emails

There are two configurations you need to make to assure a successful search for older email.

1. The Outlook client caches email to your device. Depending on how you have configured email caching will determine if your search results are successful.

• Open Outlook – click “File"

• Click “Account Settings” then click “Account Settings” again.

• Double-click on your mailbox name.

• Check “Use Cached Exchange Mode …”

Adjust the bar to how much “Past” email you want to cache. Click “Next”

                 NOTE: If you know that the email you are seeking is over 5 years old then choose “All.”

• Click “Done” -Click “Close” – Exit Outlook – Reopen Outlook

All Outlook Users have an “Online Archive Mailbox.”

When email reaches 2 yrs.old an email retention policy will move the email to the user’s “Online Archive Mailbox.”

2. When searching for “Past” email change the search parameter to “All Mailboxes.”

This will search your personal mailbox and your “Online Archived Mailbox.”
