This article goes over using the Course Accessibility Checker to check a Canvas course using an accessibility checker to test against a curated selection of WCAG 2.2 Level A, AA, and AAA success criteria.

Steps to Implement

  1. Navigate to Course
  2. Navigate to "Accessibility" on the course menuAn image showing the user selecting the "Accessibility" link on the course navigation menu.
  3. Click on the "Scan Course" button in the center or at the top right of the pageAn image showing the user having navigated to the accessibility tool selecting the "Scan Course" button within the tool.
  4. Review the results by scrolling down to the "Issues" area 
  5. Click on the "Fix" button to bring up a specific issue that was foundAn image showing the user selecting the "Fix" button located next to "Lesson One" which is a page.
  6. Review the Issue Description
  7. Resolve the issue and select Apply.An image showing an image listed on "Lesson One". The Image is of a mineral, but the issue description tells the user that the image name is the same as the file name. In this case the file name is Image.png. It shows the user having updated the "Alt Text" on the image to "Agate & Quartz-lined Geode." and is ready to select the "Apply" button.
  8. If you are not able to resolve the issue at this time, or do not think that the issue is valid, you are able to Click the "Skip" button
  9. Otherwise click on the "Save & Next" buttonAn image showing the user having Applied the previously entered modified Alt Text with red outlines around the "Skip" and "Save & Next" buttons.
