After installing Mathtype version 7.8 you might receive an error message when running the program for the first time requesting a new version of the MT Extra Font. If you do not require the MT Extra Font, you can click okay on the error message and continue using the program.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

Quit all Office programs.

Reinstall MathType or run the MathType 4 Fonts Setup program.

Start Windows Explorer and open the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.

Click mtextra.ttf, and then click Copy on the Edit menu.

Open the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Equation folder, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
