The Classic Canvas ePortfolio and Folio/Portfolium will be retired on June 30th, 2026. This guide will help you back up, download, and rebuild your academic portfolio in the new Canvas Enhanced Portfolio.

Before You Begin

First, identify what type of portfolio you currently have:

 Migrating from Classic Canvas ePortfolio

Export or Download Your Content

There is no automatic migration. Students must download their content and rebuild it manually on the new platform.

  1. Go to Account → ePortfolios.
  2. Select your ePortfolio.
  3. For each page:
    • Copy and paste your written content.
    • Download any attached files.
    • Save important images.
  4. Save links to any embedded videos (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.).

Tip: Create a folder named “My ePortfolio Backup” and organize your files by sections.


Migrating from Canvas Folio / Portfolium

There is no direct migration from Portfolium (Folio) to the New Canvas Enhanced Portfolio. Students must export their projects before the system is removed.

Step 1: Access Your Folio

  1. In Canvas, go to Account → Folio.
  2. This will open Portfolium.

Step 2: Export Your Projects

For each project:

  1. Open the project.
  2. Download:
    • Uploaded files (PDFs, Word docs, presentations, images, etc.).
    • Images or videos.
    • The text description (copy/paste).
  3. Save any external links (GitHub, YouTube, LinkedIn, Google Docs).

Step 3: Export Your Profile Content

There is no automatic transfer for your Portfolium profile.

You can:

  1. Screenshot your About Me section.
  2. Save your profile photo and banner image if desired.

Create Your New Canvas Enhanced Portfolio

Step 1: Open the New Portfolio Tool

  1. Go to Account → Portfolio.
  2. Click +Create Portfolio → Create Showcase Portfolio
  3. Give it a meaningful name, such as:
    • “My Professional Portfolio 2025”
    • “Education Portfolio – My Name”

Step 2: Build Your Structure

Create sections such as:

  • 🌟 Introduction / About Me
  • 📚 Courses & Learning Artifacts
  • 🧪 Academic Projects
  • 💻 Technology or Programming Projects
  • 🎓 Awards & Certifications
  • 📂 Final Products / Evidence of Learning

Step 3: Upload and Add Your Content

From your saved materials:

  1. Paste your written reflections or descriptions.
  2. Upload files (PDFs, images, presentations, etc.).
  3. Add external links (GitHub, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google Docs).
  4. For each artifact, describe:
    • What you created
    • What you learned
    • What skills you demonstrated
    • What tools you used

Step 4: Personalize the Design

Enhanced Portfolio allow:

  • Custom cover images
  • Section icons
  • Media-rich pages
  • Simple drag-and-drop editing

  • Will my instructor still be able to see my old ePortfolio?

Yes, as long as the tool remains enabled. However, you should still migrate before the retirement date.

  • If I don’t back up my Folio or ePortfolio, will I lose everything?

Yes. Once the platform is removed, all content is lost.

  • Can I create more than one Enhanced Portfolio?

Yes, you can create multiple portfolios.

  • Can I use this for job applications?

Absolutely. The new Enhanced Portfolio is designed to be shareable and employer friendly.
