Set up and use Microsoft Authenticator, a multifactor authentication (MFA) application that helps verify your identity online for your TCCD accounts. If you have been using TCCD’s Two-Step VPN, you are already familiar with how an MFA works and should be able to install Microsoft’s Authenticator for VDI and other applications

Microsoft Authenticator is needed to log in to Cloud VDI, Microsoft Office 365 and a variety of Single Sign-On applications. If you have already configured your @tccd.edu account for Cloud VDI you do not need to proceed with these instructions.

Microsoft Authenticator App Instructions

Follow these steps to use the Microsoft Authenticator app for MFA.

Step 1: Download and install Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device

  • Visit Apple’s App Store or the Google Play Store on your mobile device and install Microsoft Authenticator.
  • If you already have Microsoft Authenticator installed on your mobile device, skip this step.
  • Only install the application during this step, do not setup your account.
  • You will use the Microsoft Authenticator app in Step 2 below when it's time to scan the QR code.

Step 2: Add your account to Microsoft Authenticator

  1. Start the Chrome browser on your desktop, open an incognito window (CTL+Shift+N), and navigate to http://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo. If prompted, enter your TCCD credentials.
    • Note: Do not use the Internet Explorer browser for this step.
    • Choose the requirements from “How Should we contact you” window
  2. Select “Mobile App” from the drop list.
  3. Select “Receive notification for verification option”.
  4. Click “Set up”
  5. Configure mobile app window will be your next screen, follow the instructions

“Start by getting the app” screen

  • If you haven’t already downloaded the app on your mobile device, do this now.

“Set up your account” screen

  1. Using your mobile device, select the + in the top right corner to add a new account.
  2. Select “Work or School Account” on your mobile device.
  3. In your computer browser window, click “Next”.

“Scan the QR code” screen using Microsoft's Authenticator App

  1. In the Microsoft Authenticator app, choose “Scan a QR Code” and scan the QR code that appears on your computer screen.
    • Note: Ensure that you have turned on the QR code reader on your mobile device, found in your camera settings.
  2. The authenticator app should successfully add your work or school account without requiring any other information from you.

“Let’s try it out” screen and the rest of the backup setup

  1. You will be sent a push notification to your mobile device to test your account.
  2. Approve the notification in the app and select next. Note: The approval notification will expire after 25 seconds.
  3. You will be required to “Add your cell number” in case you loose access to your app.
  4. Navigate to your security information page to add your office phone for additional backup verification. Note: steps 14 – 17 are optional.
  5. Click + Add method.
  6. Choose office phone from drop list and click add. Enter your office phone number and use the call me option and click next.
  7. You should receive a phone call from microsoft, at your office phone to verify, press the # key to complete verification.
  8. You have completed the MFA setup process.

Step 3: Test Microsoft Authenticator During Login

  1.  Log into VDI at http://cloud.tccd.edu to test the Microsoft Authenticator login process.
  2.  Sign in with your TCCD email address.
  3. Monitor your phone for the Microsoft Authenticator push notification.
  4. Approve the request in the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. You need to       approve the request within 15 seconds, or it will timeout.

Congratulations! You have completed the Microsoft Authenticator setup and can receive push notifications for multi-factor authentication verification.

Text Message Verification Instructions

Follow these instructions to use MFA at TCCD without installing Microsoft Authenticator on your mobile device by adding your account to Microsoft Authenticator

  1. Start the Chrome or Edge browser on your desktop, open an incognito window (CTL+Shift+N), and navigate to http://aka.ms/mysecurityinfo. If prompted, enter your TCCD credentials.
    • Note: Do not use the older Internet Explorer browser for this step.
  2. Select + Add Method and choose Phone
  3. Enter the phone number for your mobile device
  4. Choose Text me a code
  5. Click Next

  1. Check your mobile device for a text message that contains your verification code
  2. Enter the 6 digit code from the text message on the computer screen prompt.

 

  1. Select Next
  2. Click Done when your phone has been registered successfully
